Metacentre (Compair/GardnerDenver) Gateway: Compressor Connectivity Products Manual

Metacentre (Compair/GardnerDenver) Gateway: Compressor Connectivity Products Manual

This is the current manual that supports Metacentre CompAir/Gardner Denver Gateway. See attachments tab to download.

A full compatibility matrix is available at the end of the manual. It lists which controllers are compatible with what gateways.

Gateway power supply good practice
It is strongly advised to use an external 24V DC supply to power this device. Never use the same 24V AC power supply, derived from the compressor transformer secondary winding.
When using a 24V AC power supply, it is possible that a situation occurs where a current flows trough the RS485 communication wires (ground loops). Or it is possible that a RS485 receiver is powered over it's communication cables via a different RS485 terminal, instead of it's regular power supply. If this happens, the communication terminal will break down.

DelcosXL_SE regulation symbol
DelcosXL_SE VSD controller containing Oilfree software (V129) will display the following icon when being regulated via the CompAir/GD Gateway. Notice the arrow on the top right corner.

DelcosXL_SE VSD controller will display the following icon when it is running locally.

DelcosXL_SE FIXED speed software (2.42) displays the following icon when being regulated via the CompAir/GD gateway.  Notice the arrow on the top right corner.

Additional information on how to configure the SW1 DIP switches
There are 3 devices who play a part in this set-up. A first is the Metacentre main sequencing controller (E.g. a Metacentre XC or SX). Second is the Compair/GD gateway. A third is the compressor asset controller. All 3 of these devices have to be pointed towards the same network address to allow a valid communication, and valid remote control.
Practically speaking, this means that the configured ModbusRTU address for the compressor controller has to match the set address on the gateway via the SW1 DIP switches, and finally, correspond to the asset number on the main sequencer.

Example:
I have 5 compressors in my system.  The third compressor is a compressor with a GD Pilot TS controller.
  1. On the GD Pilot TS, the ModbusRTU address has to be set to '3' for the relevant RS485 Port.
  2. On the gateway, the SW1 DIP switches are set to: high high low low, since this corresponds to address '3'.
  3. In the main sequencer there is no "direct" way to set an address for a compressor. Instead it automatically establishes that the "1st" compressor has address 1, the "2nd", address 2, ...
    1. By 1st compressor we refer to:
      1. The first set of LED's shown on the LED panel:
      2.
      3. The first compressor configured in menu page C03:

    2. To finish this example, the performance data of the compressor with the GD Pilot TS controller is to be inserted for compressor 3 in menu C03.
