Powering Your DRIVE+ / LINK+: Connection Options

Powering Your DRIVE+ / LINK+: Connection Options

In this article, we'll cover the different ways you can supply power to your DRIVE+ or LINK+ device. Since these products are used around the world, the power connection must follow local electrical and safety regulations.
The examples bellow come directly from the Connection Examples we made for the DRIVE+/LINK+. You can find the Connection Examples here.

Basic Power Requirements

Both the DRIVE+ and LINK+ require:
  • Mains voltage: 100–250 V AC
  • Frequency: 50/60 Hz
  • Minimum power consumption: 45 W
A fused switching isolator must be installed on the main incoming power line external to the DRIVE+/LINK+. This isolator should be fitted with a fuse rated correctly for the power cable used, based on your local standards.

Grounding (Earth) Connection

  • The X08 Earth terminal on the DRIVE+/LINK+ must be securely connected to the asset's main earth point.
  • Use a 2.5 mm² (14 AWG) earth cable for this connection.
  • Do not connect to a remote earth point. Induction motors can create small voltage differences between separate earth points, which can cause electrical instability.

Power Supply Connection Options

There are multiple ways to connect power to the DRIVE+/LINK+. Below are three commonly used methods based on real-world installation examples. These are not the only options, but they provide a helpful guide.

Three Phase + Neutral Supply (L–L = 360–415 V AC)
If your air compressor uses a three-phase + neutral power supply and the line-to-line voltage is between 360–415 V AC, you can use one of the phases and the neutral wire to power the DRIVE+/LINK+.
  • This gives you a line-to-neutral voltage of approx. 240 V AC, which is within the acceptable input range.
  • Install a 1.0 A fuse to protect the input.

Used in Example 1 (DRIVE+ / LINK+)

Separate Transformer
If your compressor does not have a three-phase + N connection, a separate transformer can be used to step down voltage.
  • Primary coil: 400 V AC
  • Secondary coil: 230 V AC
  • Minimum power rating: 45 W
  • Install a 1.6 A slow-blow fuse on the secondary side to protect the DRIVE+/LINK+.

Used in Example 2 (DRIVE+ / LINK+)

External Power Source
If neither of the above options is available, an external power supply can be used. This is typically considered a last resort and is used when no connection can be made directly within the air compressor.

Used in Example 3 (DRIVE+ / LINK+)

Other Options
The three examples above are simply the most common configurations. You're not limited to these methods — any power supply setup that meets the DRIVE+/LINK+ voltage and safety requirements can be used.
Alert
Be sure to follow local wiring codes, and always ensure your installation is electrically safe and properly fused.
